ACHIEVEMENT LOG

25th April - 1st April 2022

WEEK 9

WHAT DID I DO THIS WEEK?

  • Progress check with Adam

  • Tested projector with new game version 4

  • Creation of all promotional material

  • Filmed our documentary

  • Designed User Interface

PROGRESS CHECK

We began the week by speaking to Adam about sourcing the equipment we need to fulfil our desired setup for the experience. He informed us we will be unable to get our hands on new projectors, so should test the ones we have already. (Media Stores) He also said to send him new dimensions for the setup to contact Andy about building/forming the structure for us. This led us into our next task of setting up the space and gathering dimensions.

TESTING PROJECTOR & GATHERING DIMENSIONS

We projected game version 4 onto a flat surface with our SANYO short throw projector and gathered the dimensions for setup. I then drew new mockups of the space with our desired dimensions for the panels and forwarded these to Adam, who passed them onto Andy and the Fine Art department to get our structure built!

PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL & DOCUMENTARY

It was my responsibility this week to design our stickers, shirts and posters, and have these complete, ordered and printed! I managed to get this done in around 2 days, and now we are just waiting to receive the stickers and t-shirts in the post - we should receive these items in the next few weeks. We should have all marketing material ready for our degree shows to successfully promote and market Getaway! On Saturday, we also went to campus to setup and film our documentary! I gathered clips, wrote a script and setup the tripod and camera to begin filming. We now have all the clips we need, and I should have this edited and complete by mid next week.

USER INTERFACE

As we also required UI to start up the server, I took it upon myself to draw up a series of UI concepts and designs, which we discussed and chose a final design. Kiera is set to implement these assets into the environment next week, latest.

WHAT DIDN'T GO WELL? / TEAM DECISIONS

I am worried we spent a little too long on asset creation this week. We should have had most assets completed by the end of last week. We have accounted for these changes in the schedule, and I have also extended completion dates in our Asset Table/List.

NEXT STEPS FOR NEXT WEEK

Next week, we have organised a series of playtesting sessions and to continue testing the setup in the space. From now on, we should be hosting a playtesting session at least once a week before hand-in. We will continue to test different projectors and setups, to ensure we have this set in stone too. Next week, we should also be working towards Game Version 5, developing our current experience further by implementing our ready assets into the space, and the final soundtracks. The result of testing next week should impact the changes and adjustments we make too.

HOW DO I FEEL?

We are on track so I am confident we can get everything done, but I am still concerned about the structure of the space. However, after speaking with Adam, he informed us that it'll be ok to showcase our intentions for the intended experience via our game documentary, so this should be fine as long as we get the suitable content we need.
