Week 2: Version Control Set-up

Tuesday 8th February 2022

VERSION CONTROL SET-UP - Lecture

Today we familiarised ourselves with Version Control. Our lecture was based on understanding Version Control and how we can use it during the project. I documented my understanding and notes from the lecture on my Notion which can be found here:

WHAT IS VERSION CONTROL?

"the practice of tracking and managing changes to software code".

HOW WILL WE BE USING IT?

Kiera and I should be using Version Control to track progress and trace changes throughout development. This document allows us to make changes if necessary without causing interferences and save different versions of our outcome to review and refer back to. The purpose of Version Control allows developers to make fixes without disruption, solve problems and "increase successful deployment". Our course leader taught us how to use the program to keep track of our progress and talked us through the steps to get our own set up.

THE START OF VERSION CONTROL

Throughout this project we will be using https://www.gitkraken.com/ to make changes, analyse bugs and fix problems while keeping a backlog/history of this throughout.

NEXT STEPS FOR THIS WEEK:

Now we have this set-up, Kiera and I need to speak with our tutors Adam Procter and James Stallwood to gather opinions regarding our idea and fuel some inspiration around next steps. Once we begin development in Unity, we will use our Version Control document to record our progress and overcome any issues that might arise.
