Monday 14th February 2022

STARTING PHASE 2...

WEEK 3

To start the week i'll be discussing the previous and next week with Kiera including our next steps and plan according to our new schedule! By the end of this morning we should have a more refined plan and to do list for the next 5 days.

WEEK 3 - TEAM DISCUSSION

Monday 14th February

NOTES:

  • Pleased with our current progress

  • Happy with our marketing and material in place

  • Have a new schedule in place which will help us work accordingly with better time management - we now each have our own tasks.

  • Last week had meetings with Adam and James where we gathered feedback and suggestions.

  • Adam provided us with contact information for the construction of box and projectors which we should use these week.

  • Have box specifications ready to send off to Andy Brook and Chris O'Connor.

  • At the end of last week we concluded on a gameplay idea which we are happy with and ready to move on with.

  • This week should really begin to prototype chosen interactions in Unity Build - Kiera to do this in Virtual Reality.

  • First few prototypes in Virtual Reality until our physical box is built - allows us to have different versions of our game and available for testing.

CONCLUSION

NEXT STEPS

  • Get in contact with Technicians and alumni using contact information provided. (Can be found on last weeks discussion page)

  • This week should be spent thinking about gameplay design and building the foundations of our game.

  • Emilia to begin mood-boards and inspiration gathered around our chosen theme.

  • Conclusion for theme/subject matter via final survey/questionnaire - Emilia to create and send to target audience. (Friends and peers)

  • Basic prototype for interaction in a VR space - to be created by Kiera.

  • Begin posting process on Instagram and Updates on Twitter if possible.

EVALUATION  & REFLECTION

WHAT WENT WELL?

Last week, Kiera and I spent most of our time problem solving and making design decisions. our talks with both our tutors were very helpful as we gathered external opinions and ideas regarding our next steps and how exactly we will make things work. This gave us a lot of hope and inspiration which we were able to channel and generate gameplay ideas! Thankfully, we were able to conclude on a gameplay idea which I continued to map out through storyboards and concept sketches. Now we have an idea of gameplay and mechanics we can move on with getting our first prototype made to further demonstrate this.

WHAT DIDN'T GO WELL?

James made us aware of the implications regarding our set up and what we wanted from the space. To overcome it, we were able to find a solution which uses one global camera in a 3D environment using 2D assets, rather than 4 separate cameras and 4 PC's. Luckily, we were able to talk a way around this and find a solution quickly otherwise this would have been a big problem!

CHANGES WE HAVE TO MAKE THIS WEEK:

The only change we made last week was the setup of the build in Unity now being in a 3D space using 1 Global Camera. Kiera is responsible for the Unity build which she will be updating via our GitKraken. (Version Control Document)

NEXT STEPS FOR THIS WEEK:

This week, I will be emailing both Andy Brook and Chris O'Connor about the construction of the box and the use of the projectors we need. Hopefully, we receive a quick response and can get this underway as soon as possible! In addition to this, Kiera will be implementing our chosen mechanic/interaction with Touch Controllers into Unity to give us our first version of gameplay. My highest priority for this week will be to gather responses from our target audience regarding our theme and art style which should influence the visual appearance of our game. Using this information, I can create an Art Bible to lead the direction of our visual design.

Last week, we recreated our schedule/planning which meant we had to move tasks around and schedule things differently to how we planned last Semester. We now have weekly scheduled tasks with their own dates for completion and assigned roles which should help us manage our time better. We will also continue to use Trello to keep 'To Do Lists' and an update on tasks.
