Week 9:
Documentary

Friday 30th April - Monday 2nd May 2022

WEEK 9 -

TO DO: FILM CLIPS FOR THE DOCUMENTARY AND EDIT!

PURPOSE FOR DOCUMENTARY

The purpose for our short documentary is to document the process of development and use it as a piece of promotional material market our game and studio. This should give viewers and players insight into how the game was made, including the research, ideas, team and project goals behind the idea! It will be a great way to showcase what we stand for as well as highlight our own skills and capabilities, which could be seen by industry experts!

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

Today is the day we will begin to film the documentary! I have been excited to begin filming this since I first planned it which can be found in Week 4. I have the plan for the film already set in stone, so today is about getting the backdrop set up, writing a brief script and filming. Over the next few days, I should edit the documentary and have this complete by latest Week 10. I am responsible for the plan and outcome of the short film, so hopefully it ends up the way I intend!

Today should involve the setup of the backdrop and filming the main parts of the documentary, where Kiera and I should be on screen describing and commenting on the development process of our game Getaway. This should be kept brief and concise but still engage listeners. I then plan to take short clips of our work and team in action to add on top of our voices too.

TASK 2

SPEECH!

TO DO - Write a script to encourage responses

Kiera and I feel that we will perform better if we had words to prompt us as we spoke, so we plan to write a brief description for each part of the speech which we can follow during recording.

Using my Week 4 plan, I have written the basis of the script with help from Kiera.

TASK 3

FILMING!

TO DO - Film the team on screen & additional clips

It's time to film! We have used the basic outline in my plan to organise the short film, but have left room for improvisation if we feel we need to. The setup for filming will be as follows:

  • Camera - Kiera's iPhone

  • Microphone - Apple Headphones connected to Voice Memos

During the editing process, I will be combining both the clips and voice memos together, accompanied by our soundtrack as background music.

TASK 4

EDITING!

Sunday 1st May - Monday 2nd May

TO DO - Edit the clips for the documentary!

This is the fun part! Now we have all the clips we need for the documentary, I will be spending this weekend editing the clips, combining them with our voice recordings and other elements to finalise our development documentary! This should take me around 2 days and I am scheduled to finish this by the end of Week 10. I am on track to completing this as soon as I can as this is my main focus at the minute. I am excited to get started! Kiera has been working on the BitShort.Studio site over the past week so we should have all the marketing bits ready for this by the end of Week 10 - then we can publish it!

THE MAKING OF GETAWAY

REFLECTION

Kiera and I are both extremely happy with the outcome of the documentary! We think we set the tone really well and showcased both our intentions and process clearly. I really enjoyed editing the documentary and found iMovie easy to use, I'll definitely be using this software for the gameplay demo and trailer, as I am certainly more confident using it now. I am happy with the final result and I can't wait for people to see it!

NEXT STEPS

I have attached the final documentary to the 'Marketing' folder in my sharepoint, and plan to have this embedded into our BitShort Website. Kiera should be currently working on this and having this finalised before hand-in.
