SEMESTER TWO

FINAL MAJOR PROJECT -

The Final Major Project will consist of 4 main phases across 12 weeks. "Refine, Publish, Polish"

A game based project and a professionally presented portfolio of supportive creative work.

WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?

For this final Semester I am required to further design and develop my chosen game idea. This will involve refining and further developing my Project Proposal from Semester One. During first Semester, I worked with my teammate Kiera Walton to propose an idea for an immersive interactive 'safe space' for students to regulate their emotions. We combined our interests and relative themes to establish our goals, to raise awareness and promote well-being. Now it's time for us to refine and develop this game idea, and produce a successfully functioning final deliverable.

THE BREAKDOWN

The breakdown for this Semester is split into four main phases.

FOUR PHASES, 12 WEEKS:

PHASE 1 - 2 weeks

  • Marketing, setting up social media, website and blog

  • Establish tone of voice

  • Brand

  • Music

  • Sound

  • Film

 

PHASE 2 - 6 weeks

  • Iterate

  • User Test

  • Create prototypes for game

  • Promotion in action to relevant places

  • Easter Breaks - around 3 weeks

PHASE 3 - 3 weeks

  • Refine

  • Bug Fixes

  • Polish

  • Present

  • Connect to Industry

ADDITIONAL NOTES

  • Documentary - It'll be necessary to produce a documentary/short film for the process of this project. This can include flowcharts, sticky notes, whiteboards, evidence of process. Audio over the process and clips of team members with their name and their roles.

  • Screenshots of process

  • Timelapses - speed up the process, capture audience

  • Marketing throughout the 12 weeks of the project

  • Game/Final Deliverable - should work on different platforms to allow a wide audience to see and play it. This makes it more accessible.

  • Arcade Event to be early July. 

WHERE DO I BEGIN?

To begin this Semester, Kiera and I must refine our scope. We are aware that the scale of our scope must be much smaller in order for us to achieve a successful functioning outcome by the end of 12 weeks. We have to consider the design and development of each asset, sound and marketing etc, so it's definitely necessary to do this before we begin the creation. This site will be a reflection of my personal development as well as collaborative work with my teammate Kiera Walton. I will be documenting each Phase into individual pages which will allow me to keep to schedule and organise myself better.

To finish Semester One, Kiera and I produced an appropriate schedule using our Agile Methodology to plan our project efficiently. To begin development, in Phase 1 I will refer to what needs to be done first/is a high priority which will allow us to refine our schedule and be more direct with task distribution.

Phase 1

Phase 1 will consist of the set-up of promotional and marketing material. This will include websites, blogs, logo and game name. During this Phase, we should also have refined our Project Scope, established an asset list and have a list of components ready to implement, test and prototype in Phase 2.

​

Phase 2

Phase 2 will consist of tests, iterations and prototypes of gameplay. We should be measuring the effectiveness of our gameplay and player experience in line with our Project Goals and Essential Experience.

​

Phase 3

This Phase will involve refining, fixing bugs and polishing the gameplay experience. Around this stage we should be focusing on connecting with industry experts through social media platforms and continue to grow our audience.

​

Phase 4

The final Phase will involve final touches to ensure the game works successfully and is ready for presentation and play. We should also finalise the production of our promotional material, ready for launch and our Arcade Event in June/July.
