Easter:
Asset Testing

Saturday 9th April 2022

EASTER WEEK 2 - 3 -

TO DO: ASSET TESTS

PURPOSE FOR TESTS

As Art Lead in the team, it is my responsibility to test the quality of our assets within th e environment, provide feedback and make any necessary changes. I will be using my asset documents to do this which can be found here:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_ZyvR8A07sM6TfMOPH8mUQ88wrrn4Me_ystsSdrEiY0/edit?usp=sharing

WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?

I will be taking the first set of assets created by Kiera and I and reviewing them against our initial requirements. Things I must consider will involve art style, quality, expectations and appearance in the digital environment. Once I have undertaken a series of visual tests, I will provide team member Kiera with feedback/changes/comments and mark completion or in-progress.

GOALS FOR THE DAY

Test a series of assets, provide feedback, document and update Kiera.

SERIES OF TESTS

(9th - 13th April)

TEST 1

THE SNOW BUNTING BIRD ANIMATION!

PURPOSE FOR TEST:

The purpose for this first test is to provide Kiera with feedback regarding her first iteration of the Snow Bunting bird animation! I will be assessing the art style and evaluating its design in line with our initial expectations.

REVIEW & EVALUATION

Kiera has sent two iterations for the bird animation. Kiera's been focusing on getting a realistic animation of the Snow Bunting down first, before going in with detail and shading etc. We both agreed that Kiera will need more time to work on this, to make the animation much smoother and to of course add in the detail that we need. As we were both on the same terms, I have extended the day for this to be complete as the 13th May - latest! This is to ensure the animation is perfected, as this is what players will be focusing on the most. This timeframe also allows her to work on other tasks in the meantime as we have a lot to complete!

TEST 2

THE SKI LIFT ANIMATION

PURPOSE FOR TEST:

The purpose for this first test is to provide Kiera with feedback regarding her ski lift designs and animations! The ski lifts must have been designed in line with the Art Bible art style, as well as their expectations in the scene.

REVIEW & EVALUATION

I was really impressed by the design of the ski lifts, I'd love to see them in action! I can't wait to see what they look like in the space. The only bit of feedback I have provided Kiera with is to cut out the ski lifts in order to prepare to animate, as we ideally need clean PNG's of these assets to work with. Other than that, the style is perfect and I believe they'll work really well in the scene.

TEST 3

THE CLOUDS

PURPOSE FOR TEST:

The purpose for this first test is to provide Kiera with feedback regarding her cloud designs! I will be reviewing the art style of the clouds in the environment, by overlaying her creations over our chosen environment scenes. I already provided Kiera with a little guidance as she drew the clouds, so we already have an outcome we are happy with, it's down to testing to visualise which design works best!

REVIEW & EVALUATION

After testing the first set of cloud designs, I discussed with Kiera that they appeared a little too cartoon-like and bubbly, rather than looking natural and faded, they seemed to stand out too much. During this time, Kiera worked on improving the design to make them appear lighter and less harsh and we came to an agreement regarding the final design, which looks much better in the scene. (The 3rd one on the second page above) All that's left for Kiera to do is scan in the final assets and cut these out, ready for implementation into the digital scene.

UPDATED ASSET LIST: (Updated on the 26th April)

I have updated the asset list accordingly and will continue with the next series of tests:

REFLECTION & NEXT STEPS

I have provided Kiera and I with the necessary feedback and we are both aware of what we have to do to make further improvements to our asset creation. I have assigned different 'completion' dates to each task, and hopefully we have all assets made by Week 10, allowing us to implement them all into the space. I am happy with the style of all assets and we did a great job at working consistently and achieving what was expected from both of us. We have to make the last finishing touches to animations, but other than this we are on track and eager to begin Week 9 of development.

Throughout the next few weeks, I will be regularly updating the asset list where necessary, and this is where I will keep track of asset production from now on. In addition to this, we will be sending all final assets to our sharepoints linked below:
