SETUP TESTING
This week we projected the two servers across two screens! It was amazing to see the experience projected the way we imagined, and it was so cool to interact on screen. Although the setup wasn't perfect, we learned a lot and took note of what we need to improve on for next time. During this test, we used two different projectors, and quickly concluded that we needed to get our hands on two VIVITEK projectors. Next week, we should get our hands on these and carry out another setup test with a further developed game version.
PLAYTESTING
Throughout the week, we playtested the experience again and gathered more feedback. Again, the feedback we received was based around the detection itself and the inability to fly smoothly. This is something we MUST be working on before hand-in, as it's the most important. We have also scheduled to discuss these issues with James to see if he has any recommendations or advice.
GAME V7
This seventh game version now consists of the two new environment designs, replacing the first design. They are much more detailed and refined and overall are a higher quality drawing! The animated bird has now been imported into the space, as well as a new snowflake design! This version also consists of the new sound files, as we previously used surround sound files but have now changed to a regular stereo mix. To finish off, this version also consists of a 'BEGIN' button, which players must press to begin the experience.
FINAL ASSET CREATION
During review, I thought it would be necessary to create a 'loading screen' to allow the server to boot up, and for snowflakes to fall. There were some previous comments about beginning the experience and all elements lagging, so this should avoid that! This weekend, I have spent my time creating small gifs of the hand interaction and other fun elements to present to players and introduce the experience before they jump into it. This also clears up the issue of being unaware of how to interact/what to do.
WHAT DIDN'T GO WELL? / TEAM DECISIONS
We are still facing issues with the wrist detection. We are unaware if this is because of the quality of our webcams, the position, the lighting, or the script in itself. We spoke with James this week and he recommended to adjust settings to make this the best it can be, so again, Kiera will be focusing on this for the last few weeks.
NEXT STEPS FOR NEXT WEEK
Next week, I am scheduled to begin the creation of our game trailer and gameplay demonstration video. I should be capturing the clips for these, editing and completing these next week. I also plan to upload these all to our new Youtube Channel for our audience to watch and easy access. ('BitShort Studio') I also plan to read through and finalise our BitShort.Studio site, to hopefully have this complete and published by the end of Week 12.
HOW DO I FEEL?
I am sad the project and University is coming to an end! Although, we still have a lot to do, so I am feeling the pressure to get this all done by the time we need it. If we continue to work according to our schedule we will be fine, and must get the help when we need it! I am excited to see the final deliverable combined with our new setup, and we know we must continue to work on this after hand-in, in preparation for our degree shows! For now, Week 12 is just around the corner.
