PLANNING FOR EASTER
This week, we began by planning the Easter Holidays and thinking about which exact tasks we will fulfill during the holidays, as we will be working remotely. We also expanded our planning to after the holidays up until our deadline day on the 26th May. This new plan can be found within my documentation.
SOUND BIBLE
This week I forwarded Harry Williams the final Sound Bible and discussed what was expected from him. We have planned to receive the first track draft during the holidays which I plan to document and review.
PROTOTYPING, TESTING, PLAYTESTING.
With our new setup and focusing on just one panel, we projected an environment concept on the wall and played a sample of music to create our intended experience, minus the interaction. We sat a handful of playtesters down, monitored their heart rates and evaluated the effectiveness of the experience. We gathered some great feedback and recommendations, and most said they were interested in the idea of using gesture, which we will be testing next. Other than that, the visual and sound design had the desired effect on players, so we can conclude that we are along the right lines. Also, we noticed a significant decrease in heart rates amongst all testers, which proves that our experience had a positive physical effect on testers. This is good!
JAMES' TECH SESSION
On Thursday, James held a tech session with other students to speak about our current projects and discuss how we could further use the 'Image processing' program. It was interesting to hear ideas from other students and share our own. We also got to test the program ourselves. This current version consists of an eye detection, and a small dot moves with the movement of a users left eye! This was interesting to see and note down how we could take this further/how we can apply it to our own development.
PREPARE PRESENTATION FOR GAMES DAY!
This week we received some exciting yet nerve wracking news. Kiera and I have been given the opportunity to present Getaway at the Barclays Games Day event on the 31st March. This is an event we are attending to showcase our games and network with industry experts and other students. Kiera and I grabbed the opportunity, so I created our presentation for the day and began writing my own script.
WHAT DIDN'T GO WELL? / TEAM DECISIONS
During testing, we received a few comments regarding the art style being too harsh in the space. We know this is because it requires further development and testing, which we will account for during asset creation. As well as this, we found the experience was ineffective for one of our testers! However, we know not all people will find our experience effective and it's something we must take with a pinch of salt, as long as the majority find it useful! But of course, we will be taking all feedback ahead and making improvements to better the experience.
STEPS FOR NEXT WEEK/EASTER
We scheduled the Easter Holidays to consist of mainly asset creation, testing and further development/game versions. During next week and after Barclays Games Day, I will be distributing asset tasks between us, and we should have around a week to create, test and finalise our asset creation, ready for implementation. Some time throughout the next few weeks, we should also have the next few versions of the image processing program, which I am excited to see. Kiera will be in charge of this as Technical Lead.
HOW DO I FEEL?
I am happy we are entering the Easter Holidays, but I am determined to begin asset creation and continue with the project. I am excited to begin drawing, because this is what I enjoy the most!
