WEEK 7

ACHIEVEMENT LOG

14th March - 20th March 2022

WHAT DID I DO THIS WEEK?

  • Next steps discussion with James

  • Produced the Sound Bible

  • Planned a new set of milestones

  • First Game Version/Prototype produced

  • Finished my essays

GAME V1/PROTOTYPE

This week, we were able to have a discussion with James regarding the next steps with the image processing program. He informed us that he was working on getting the program setup for us to play around with, which he provided us with a quick demo by the end of the week. This version mapped out the main points of the users body, which we could use to select one to be in control of the bird movement. We will be using this version to expand, by reducing the detection to just one body part, and slowly implementing our own assets into the environment.

SOUND BIBLE

This week I also successfully produced the Sound Bible to guide our sound designers production for our unique soundtrack. This highglighted everything we expected from the track as well as its additional features. Using my knowledge from previous research, I touched upon particular patterns that would be useful, for example calming/relaxing keys and chords he could use. I also provided him with examples of previous tracks that could be used as inspiration. Heresponded and we should have a draft track to assess in the next few weeks. I will be keeping into contact with him to review this.

NEW MILESTONES

James suggested Kiera and I set ourselves some new and refined milestones this week, to help us with the development of the experience. These milestones outline how we are going to achieve an immersive setup and involves prototyping and testing with one screen/wall, before we begin to think about expanding to multiple. Throughout the next few weeks, we should focus on getting the experience working on one, and then evaluating how we will expand to around 2-3, which are much more feasible than the initial 4 - as we concluded, we'll need 4 individual setups/devices.

WHAT DIDN'T GO WELL? / TEAM DECISIONS

We have put the box construction on pause, because we believe this idea is a little too out of reach for the limited time we have. Instead of this, we made the decision to focus on our milestones and get the experience working on one screen, before thinking to expand to another 1 or 2. This way we can fulfil our intended player experience without the stresses of getting all the technical requirements in as of right now. Because of this, we informed Andy and Chris with our new plans.

STEPS FOR NEXT WEEK

Next week we are scheduled to begin testing our experience with a handful of users, using a draft setup of the space and an environment concept, projected on screen. This'll allow us to evaluate the effectiveness of our design choices so far. During this week, we should also be planning for the upcoming weeks as we are soon entering the Easter Break. As we will be working remotely, we must account for this in our schedule.

HOW DO I FEEL?

We have one last week until the Easter break, and a well deserved time off, but we will still be working according to schedule. It's a good time to get ahead of schedule as we will be off timetable and have extra time to work on the things we need to.
